Tar Pits is a Structure location in the Natural Feature subcategory. A dangerous terrain feature unique to the Jungle Biome that acts like quicksand, slowing players and destroying any items that fall in. Some pits contain a valuable chest in the center, accessible via a risky platforming challenge.

Location Details & Conditions

Prerequisites:

  • Requires access to the Jungle Biome (Campfire Level 3-4)

Mechanics:

  • Any item dropped into the pit is instantly and permanently destroyed.
  • Stepping into the tar immediately slows player movement speed drastically and causes them to sink, making them vulnerable to enemies.
  • The primary danger is the immobilizing effect rather than direct damage.
  • About 30-40% of Tar Pits feature a central chest that must be reached by quickly jumping across a path of sinking stone blocks.

Appearance:

General:Black, viscous, bubbling pools of tar that are more noticeable during rain. They are surrounded by a shallow edge with a deeper, darker center and emit bubbling sounds with a light smoke effect.
