Tar Pits is a Structure location in the Natural Feature subcategory.A dangerous terrain feature unique to the Jungle Biome that acts like quicksand, slowing players and destroying any items that fall in. Some pits contain a valuable chest in the center, accessible via a risky platforming challenge.

Location Details & Conditions

Prerequisites:

  • Requires access to the Jungle Biome (Campfire Level 3-4)

Mechanics:

  • Any item dropped into the pit is instantly and permanently destroyed.
  • Stepping into the tar immediately slows player movement speed drastically and causes them to sink, making them vulnerable to enemies.
  • The primary danger is the immobilizing effect rather than direct damage.
  • About 30-40% of Tar Pits feature a central chest that must be reached by quickly jumping across a path of sinking stone blocks.

Appearance:

General:Black, viscous, bubbling pools of tar that are more noticeable during rain. They are surrounded by a shallow edge with a deeper, darker center and emit bubbling sounds with a light smoke effect.
