Mechanics

To open the gate, all guarding enemies protecting the child must be killed to obtain a colored key.

Mechanic 2

Using a colored key is required to unlock the cave.

Mechanic 3

If the key is stored in the sack and dropped, it might not unlock the cave; dropping other items through the cave may push the key to unlock it.

The Caves can actually contain Strong Chests which are quite rare, although it's very common in Koala Kid's cave, almost guaranteed.

The number on the blocks in the cave tells which number child it is.

Sometimes, if you store the key in the sack and drop it, it might not unlock and drop inside the cave. If so, try to drop items through the cave too to push the key and unlock it.
