Katana is a Weapon item in the Melee subcategory. This item can be obtained through class abilities. It has comparison with spear and class exclusivity mechanics and damage, measured swing rate and measured base dps abilities. You can read about four usage tips and discover two interesting facts and trivia about this item.

Description

Katana is the Assassin Class's exclusive melee starter. Katana shares the Spear's 25 base damage but has a measured 0.45-second swing interval instead of 0.50 seconds, so it is not merely a cosmetic Spear reskin. Its reach supports safe hit-and-step-back play, while the faster rhythm rewards keeping enemies at the edge of melee range.

Item Details & Mechanics

Statistics:

Damage:25 base; 32.5 with Brawler scaling; up to 40 with the fully boosted Berserker modifier
Measured swing rate:0.45 seconds
Measured base dps:About 55.6 before other modifiers

Mechanics:

Comparison with spear:
Both list 25 base damage, but Katana's measured swing interval is about 0.05 seconds faster than Spear's 0.50 seconds.
Class exclusivity:
Katana is tied to the Assassin loadout and is not part of the ordinary chest or trader weapon pool.

Obtaining Methods1 method

Method 1
Equip Assassin before the run to spawn with 1 Katana and 120 Throwing Knives. The class costs 500 gems and also begins with reduced maximum health, so the weapon cannot be evaluated apart from that loadout tradeoff.

Usage Tips4 tips

Tip 1

Attack at maximum reach, step out during the enemy response, and re-enter for the next swing; standing still wastes the Katana's reach advantage.

Tip 2

Do not use the normal kiting rhythm against Bears as if they were Wolves: their larger attack reach can still connect.

Tip 3

Use the Throwing Knives from the same Assassin loadout when approaching a target would expose the class's lower health pool.

Tip 4

Compared with Spear, expect a slightly faster attack cadence, not higher damage per individual hit.

Trivia2 facts

Fact 1

Katana was once treated as a Spear reskin, but its measured swing-rate difference gives it a distinct damage-per-second profile.

Fact 2

It is obtainable through the Assassin class rather than as ordinary in-run loot.
